Darnell: *small grin* I've seen Radar, if not without paint. *sobers, looking at Shadow* You people saved me. When it would have been easier to just kill me. It would have secured what I know without risking yourselves. Cipher spent /hours/ treating my wounds when he didn't have to. He was willing to talk to me instead of just keeping me sedated until you guys could "safely" get me off your hands into some hospital or something. /You/ are letting me see you when you didn't have to. Please don't think I haven't noticed, Mr. Shadow.

Shadow: ... *holds out his hand* Thank you... for being willing to work with people like us.

Darnell: *takes the hand easily* People like who? I know the propaganda, I know the stories . . . I also know puzzles and mysteries as well as anyone. I prefer to reserve my own judgments. *small, rueful grin* Poor as they may be. *he's been fooled before...more than once. Still, he prefers to believe the better of people*

Shadow: *gives his hand a first shake* I can't claim that we're good people, Detective, we've done too many terrible things to say that, but we did them for reasons we felt to be justified. There is much, and at the same time little, that I regret doing since I took on the mantel of "Ghost". I truly hope you do not come to regret working with us.

Darnell: *small grin* I have a feeling I won't. I know that I'm not willing to do what others deem necessary, and I would never judge them to having more grit than I possess. I do believe in the rule of law, but I also know that the law can be wrong sometimes, or at least applied wrongly. Again, when push comes to shove, I reserve my own judgment when I can, and I prefer to know motives from all sides before I judge.

Shadow: *smile grows* Thank you for giving us a chance.

Radar: Of course he would. He’s a detective, he asks questions and comes to his own conclusions, yeah? *stepping into the kitchen. He’s a short man, likely just a couple inches past 5 feet at most. He carries himself with confidence, though, especially considering he’s just in pants and a towel around his shoulders. He’s got dusty brown hair (still a bit damp) and hazel eyes, and brown skin, perhaps Latino or Puerto Rican. He’s got a ready smile for Darnell, and an offered hand once near enough.* Radar. You certain look like you’re feeling better. Get some decent sleep?

Darnell: *grins, nodding* I come to what I believe to be the truth, regardless of any country's propaganda. *easily takes the man's hand* Radar, pleased to meet you. Uh, again. And . . . yup, as decent as can be expected, all things considered.

Shadow: *lottle grin and will finally turn to preparing breakfast.*
Radar: *will go help himself to some coffee* So, did Cipher tell you what we’re dealing with?

Darnell: *grimaces, gaze dropping to his mug as his hands tighten around it* Not in detail but...enough. *shakes his head* I've seen the Dalimars' machines, even got shoved into one once. I don't know how they worked, but I destroyed every one I found. They're abominations with /no/ good applications, and I'll /keep/ destroying any that I find.

Radar: You still have a better idea of their workings thank anyone else right now. We’ll help you make sure no one else figures out how to make any of those machines.
Shadow: *sets a plate of scrambbled eggs and bacon before Darnell, and another before Radar.*

Darnell: *nods* I've seen a lot of Charles' notes and I found a book of Alister's once. There were a lot of highly scientific computations along with metaphysical stuff. None of it made any sense to me, and I couldn't recreate any of it if I had to, not accurately, but... *shrugs and nods again - he doesn't think any of what he dredge up from memory would be of any actual help to anyone trying to recreate the contraptions, but he does acknowledge that he's the only living person with the knowledge he /does/ have*

Shadow: Doesn’t matter if you do know what they want, fact is they /think/ you do and won’t be satisfied with any protest to the contrary. *will sit with his own plate*
Radar: *digs in, nodding* They’re eyeing Officer Blackwell for their next hit. Don’t worry, we won’t let him or his family be taken. ...We’re sorry you were, it wasn’t supposed to happen.
Shadow: ...No, it wasn’t. *they failed on that one*
Gauge: *steps in. He’s a tall man, taller than all the others, and his thick. He’s got the body of a gladiator, not “flabby”, but “padded”, well muscled, but not super defined muscle like a body builder would have. The man still looks like he could suplex a truck just because he wanted to. He’s got blond hair cut very short, and blue eyes. He pauses and studies Darnell a moment, then moves to fill a plate with eggs and bacon.*

Darnell: I know. I'm just letting /you/ know what I do and don't. *shakes his head* Don't be sorry. Better me than anyone else. So long as Emma and Charlotte and the Blackwells are safe. Besides, you guys got me out of there. I'm grateful. *looks up at movement...and stands, eyes widening a bit at the size of the new guy, but offers a friendly nod of greeting* Good morning.

Gauge: Morning. *pauses to offer a hand before he sits with his breakfast* You’d not have been taken at all if we’d done our job right.
Radar: I should have known those thugs would let their greed get ahead of them. They moved a week earlier than the organization had planned for.

Darnell: *readily takes the guy's hand (doesn't know his codename yet but hasn't realized it), emphatically shakes his head at the rest* Guys, if there's one thing I've learned in my years with MCF, it's that no amount of surveillance is going to give you 100% accurate information 100% of the time. Every organization is made up of people, and unless you're a mind-reader, you can't 100% tell what every indivdual person is or isn't going to do, or when. One judgment call that gets disproven doesn't mean you didn't do your job to the best of your ability, it just means you're dealing with people who have minds of their own. That makes them ultimately unpredictable no matter how much intel you have on them. If anything, we have an advantage now. I know about this cult a week sooner than I might have, they're down three members, and now they're even less likely to get what they want, or to continue for much longer at all.

Shadow: *small smile. Darnell is a good man. They’re all hard on themselves because any lax action could result in the death of an innocent or in their own deaths, but it is nice to hear Darnell say that.*
Radar: Heh...you’re a good man, Detective. Oh, and this is Gauge.
Gauge: *nods and sits.*
Radar: Donmt be offended if he just grunts at you. *grins* He’s just shy.
Gauge: *flings a forkful of eggs at Radar* Not shy, you bonehead. *he’s just quiet*

Darnell: *shrugs and shakes his head with a small grin at the compliment...and the rest just makes him /laugh/* Been working together for a while now...? *he can see the camaraderie*

Gauge: Since colledge days. *They all look at least mid-thirties now.*
Shadow: We were all close friends before we became colleagues.
Cipher: *steps in* Mm. Morning everyone. *heads for food. He’s... a mix of proud and worried for his team. More proud though, the worried is just paranoia at people knowing his team, but he feels he can trust Darnell. He...may even give his name. Soon*

Darnell: *they're his age, then, maybe a couple years older - he looks up, completely relaxed, enjoying the company* Cipher, good morning. You have good men here.

Cipher: *beams!!* I certainly do. Sleep all right?

Darnell: *shrugs* As well as can be expected. You?

Cipher: *nods* Same. *settles with breakfast, and pauses, looking at Radar* Why do you have egg on your shirt
Radar: I was assaulted by and offended mountain.
Gauge: *soft snort that may be a soft snerk.*
Shadow: *chuckles*
Cipher: *brow goes up, amused little grin on his face.* Good thing it was just eggs.

Darnell: For the record, Mount Gauge is /not/ shy. *said with a HUGE grin*

Gauge: *looks at Darnell, surprised and a little amused that he spoke up. Actually puts a small smile on his face.* And don’t you forget it.
Cipher: *laughs* No, no he’s not. Just quiet.
Radar: And he’s mastered the art of looming, just like a mountain should.
Gauge: I’d throw more eggs at you, but I’m hungry.

Darnell: *snickers* Yup, no call wasting good food. *will finish his own breakfast and enjoy his coffee*

Cipher: .... *almost does it. He almost gives Darnell his real name. But dammit, it’s so hard to trust... they’ll all finish eating.* Any news on their next steps?
Radar: They olan to capture Officer Blackwell. You two should call him again this morning. I’m sure he’d appreciate the warning. *and maybe he’ll repay them with some info...*
Cipher: *nods and looks at Darnell.* Shall we?

Darnell: *for what it's worth? He hasn't asked…hasn't asked any of them that, just rolling with the codenames - nods and will stand, automatically taking others' dishes who are done to clear the table and head for the sink*
