Jendayi studied Zel for a long time, just...just trying to accept what she was being told.  She...she was safe?  Really safe?  She really wouldn't be hurt anymore.  It was overwhelming.  She dropped her face into her hands and just broke down sobbing.

*A man comes out of a small nearby building, following Terris over to the wagon.*

Man: Good day, milady.  Your Amin informs me you want this street urchin...?  Are you certain, he's rather unruly, and violent.  I won't be held responsible for what he may do.  *glances at Terris...* Though, I dare say you do have a strong looking bodyguard...

Zel: *sees the man coming over and puts on her best confident face . . . hey, it worked on Flynn!*  Yes, sir, I am interested.  *gives Terris a small smile*  And I'm sure I'll be fine, thank you.

Man: *shakes head* Very well.  *produces a paper* Sign at the bottom and he's yours for three lar.

Terris: *will give her a small nod to let her know that it's okay to sign.*

Zel: *nods and will do so*

Terris: *pays the man, then will cross to the J'har and cut the bind holding him to the post.  He puts the young man carefully over a shoulder and brings him to the wagon, putting him in the back.* Let's go.

Zel: *it's /everything/ in her not to go to the back and check on him, instead maintaining her "cool" facade while Terris does what he needs to do*

*They'll get away from the town, and Terris will let Zel go back and see him, and....he'll move Jendayi up front, so the child doesn't have to see the young man in such a state anymore.*

Zel: *tears in her eyes as she looks him over . . . wow, he must be in SO much pain . . . she /has/ to help him! . . . she'll start the process of unraveling her hair from its braids*

J'har: *Zel will barely get started with that process when his eyes snap open.  He surges upright and tackles her, pinning her with an arm pressed to her throat......and that took all his strength.  He leans over, not able to hold himself upright, face inches from hers and eyes locked with hers.*

Zel: *SHRIEKS and starts struggling, instinctively trying to get him off her*

J'har: *growls, from pain or "at" her she won't be able to tell.  He'll toss himself back, though, pulling her with him, clinging to her and finding something to use as a makeshift weapon when the wagon stops and Terris comes around into view.* Back off. *it comes out a hoarse croak* I'll kill her, if you don't back off.  *he weakened and injured, but adrenaline is pumping, and for the moment, anyway, he'll have no trouble keeping hold of Zel*

Zel: *keeps FIGHTING*  Let GO of me!  I'm trying to /help/ you!  Let go!  You're /hurt/!  You need /help/!  Terris, don't hurt him!

J'har: *huffs* D-don't believe you. *she'll feel him trembling.*

Terris: It's true.  She saw you and wanted to help you, not use or abuse you.

*Sanrin will describe an item that can possibly get her home.  There's...two problems, though.  She'll have to find it.  He can tell her about where to look...and that's the easy part.  The hard part is that it'll require an Anti-wielder to activate.  He'll....explain the Elements, and just /why/ finding an Anti-wielder is going to be so hard...and dangerous...*

Zel: *eyes go wider and wider the more he says - maybe...maybe this /isn't/ such a good idea after all...if nothing else, there's NO call in endangering Terris and Jendayi like that!*

Terris: *puts an arm around her.* I think it would be worth at least finding the Gateway.  That way you'll have it, should a solution ever be found.

Zel: ............... *to Sanrin*  How dangerous is the Gateway itself?

Sanrin: The only danger is in who might use it.  If you use it to return to your home, and someone of ill intent follows you, there is the danger.  The Gateway itself is not dangerous in and of itself.

Zel: .............how else might it be used?

Sanrin: It is only a gateway.  With the wielding of Anti it reads the heart and opens to where you want to go, or wherever the holders wants it to lead to.  It can be very dangerous in the wrong hands, but I trust Terris, and I trust you.

Zel: *soft blush*  It's not that.  I'm just thinking . . . if it's been hidden because it could be abused . . . I don't know if it's right for me to go dragging it out from its hiding place.  *she's caused enough trouble dragging /herself/ out from her hiding place...though granted Jendayi wouldn't be here if she hadn't.......still...*

Sanrin: It is....in safe keeping at the moment.  You will have to convince the current caretakers of your intents.  Besides, not many know about this artifact, let alone that it's anything more than a rich looking medallion.

Zel: ................ *to Terris*  I don't want to put anyone else in danger.  Maybe we'd better just leave it be.

Terris: ......*draws her into a hug* You would give up any hope of getting home...?

Zel: *TUCKS into that hug*  I . . . I hate leaving Mother . . . but if it means not endangering others?  *hesitates . . . CURLS into him . . . a-and nods, voice small*  Y-yes.  *huffs, getting control of herself, forcing a tone of bright confidence she's sure she'll be able to /feel/ in another moment*  Besides . . . I've waited all my life for my life to really /begin/ . . . I don't . . . I don't know if I can go back to living locked away in that tower.  I've seen more in the past few weeks than I've seen my whole /life/.

Terris: *nuzzles her forehead softly* You're a very brave young lady, Rapunzel.

Zel: *shudders, trying to push back the last of the fear and disappointment - at least she's not alone, and they /know/ her secret so she doesn't have to try to hide it from them... allows herself to be pulled to her feet, still clinging lightly*
Terris: *will keep her snugged close*
Jendayi: *will slip up to her...and slips a hand into Zel's*
Zel: *pulls a deep breath and looks around, snugged to Terris's side on one side and firmly gripping Jendayi's hand on the other - what doe she do now...what /doesn't/ she do now!? - is this not the start of her life that she's been longing for? She will miss Mother terribly, and it's always possible they'll still meet again somewhere, but in the meantime, maybe... maybe this is for the best*
Terris: *will giude themm away and find them a place to settle for a meal.*
Zel: *easily follows and will help fix the meal - she's quiet but at least it's not a depressed kind of quiet*
Terris: *glad to see that*

===

*They'll pend the next few days traveling home, and then it'll be a matter of atarting a new routine. He'll help Sel learn about the world as he teaches Jendayi her letters and numbers.*
Zel: *can help with the teaching too, she's literate - she's /saddened/ by so much of what she hears of the world, wishing she could help*
Jendayi: *proves to be a little sponge!  She loves learning! Anything and everything they'll teach her.*
Terris: *sorry that she has to hear these things, but she needs to be prepared...he'll be taking her into town soon...*
Zel: *is...is looking forward to that, really she is*
Terris: *glad she is. He promises that the world isn't entirely horrible, but it does have some very ugly things she will have to face.  After a few weeks they'll start preparing to leave foe town. Jen's head is wrapped in bandages to hide her ears, and Terris will carry her to keep her face hidden. He's also made some sandals for Zel.*
Zel: *it will take her quite some time to get used to them - she's NEVER worn shoes of /any/ kind before, even in winter she just kept her hearthfire going and window closed for warmth - and she doesn't like that she can't feel the ground beneath her feet, but if Terris says she needs them, she won't complain - she and Jendayi will spend that morning or the night before braiding and weaving up her hair too . . . finally she's as ready as she can be*
Terris: *has insisted at least a little. It's up to her if she wears shoes here at home, but in town she'll need to...for appearances and because of some of the nasty illnesses that can be picked up from the ground, certain infections and parasites...she doesn't want those. They'll head out. The town is a small one, or so Terris will say. Streets spread out like the spokes of a wheel from a larger building at the center. All the buildings get bigger and nicer the farther in they go. Terris will tell Zel they're heading for the one at the center.*
Zel: *is . . . staring . . . at EVERYTHING - every person, every building, every street cart and animal and EVERYTHING - it's all she can do to keep from darting away from Terris to go get a closer look at something . . . the myriad of sights, sounds, and smells is almost overwhelming*
Terris: *will walk her to a few stalls, will even buy a few small things for her, and will eventually get them to the large central building.*
Guard1: *gives her a bow* Is there anything I can help you with, miss?
Terris: We're here to see Sanrin.
Guard1: *nods* Of course. There's a nice sitting area in here. Please come in.
Terris: *heads in, sitting on the bench...and will start to unwrap Jendayi's head.*

Zel: *feels like she's wearing the blanket off her bed, it's SO big, but she's certainly not going to complain - it /is/ super soft and warm*  It's lovely.  And yes, thank you.  Can I help fix something?  I'm a pretty good cook, if I do say so myself.  And it's the least I can do for you helping me.
Terris: *will turn and accept her sodden dress. He'll wash it before he hangs it out to dry* I have vegetables in there, if you would like to get some out, and you can find a clean knife and a cutting board in there. *he points out where she'll find things and will settle to wash her dress.*
Zel:  All right!  *she'll set to work, humming softly to herself as she expertly chooses and starts cutting up a collection of vegetables, just enough for two*
Pascal: *perched on her head so he can both watch what she's doing and keep an eye on Terris, depending on which way he looks*
Terris: *will get her dress washed and dried and...* I will be back, Rapunzel. I was out hunting when I nfound you. I need to find us some meat to go wih the vegitables you're chopping.
Zel:  Oh . . . all right.  *he'll leave and she'll get the collection ready for cooking and then . . . start poking around the den, curiosity getting the better of her - she won't really disturb anything too much, but...*
Terris: *won't be away too long. He'll return with a rabbit, already read to start cooling.* Rapunzel, I'm back!
Zel: *is settled by the fire with her hair arranged around her - looks up with a bright grin and will stand* Welcome back! What can I do?
Terris: *smiles* Just rest. I'll have some lunch for us shortly. *...even the time of day is wrong...*
Zel: Oh, all right. *resettles, turning to watch him*
Pascal: *also watching him*
Terris: *quickly cuts the meat off the bone and adds meat and veggies to a pot with some water, adds some spices, then sets the pot over the fire.  He'll then sit by Rapunzel* How is it you ended up soaked, if you don't mind my asking...?
Zel: *gives him a smile and shake of her head - she doesn't mind - but the frowns a little and looks away* I was traveling with someone. We got caught in a deluge of water as a dam broke. We were swept into a river. I tried to get to the shore but then I...must have passed out. When I woke up, I was on the ground near where you found me. *okay, so she's left out a few details, but he doesn't need to know they'd been attacked by a bunch of people who "didn't like" Flynn and then nearly drowned*
Pascal: *nods, grimacing - yet, that's what happened*
Terris: You were a fair distance from any river, and not one with a dam...hm... *no, he doesn't think she's lying, there's something else going on here...*
Zel: *nods* Yeah, I didn't see one. That's what I can't figure out. I mean, maybe someone found me while I was unconscious. But if they did and they carried me away, why would they just...leave me? *confused...and /so/ worried*
Terris: *rests a hand on her shoulder* I don't know. I promise to help you find answers, whatever may have happened.
Zel:  Thank you . . . for everything.  *gaze falls to the skillet on the ground beside her and she frowns*  And . . . I'm sorry for hitting you before.  I didn't hurt you, did I?  *looks up at him, worried*
Terris: *gives her a smiles and shakes his head.* I'm fine, and you have nothing to apologize for. You were defending yourself, and rightly so. You didn't know who I was or what my intentions were. You did the right thing.
Zel: *the praise brings back a bright grin, pleased with herself*  Mother's always said I can't defend myself and the world's just too dangerous, but I've been doing okay so far, it seems.  *GLEE!...and trying to keep cool about it...but really, she's SUPER proud of herself*
Terris: *smile grows. He won't bring her down by saying that had he intended her harm she probably couldn't have defended herself, but what matters is she tried.* *he'll get up and scoop a couple bowls of soup and offer her one.* What does Pascal eat? *he knows most lizards eat bugs, but if he's Inriomai he could eat just about anything he wanted...*

[Rapunzel pulled a deep breath and followed Eugene under the water. They clawe at the rocks even as the glow from her hair faded away, and in a rush she was swept out and away from the dark confines of the small cave. Something frightening happens. As she tumbles along the riverbed she finds herslef swallowed bu dark ess. Is she drowning?!] When she wakes up, she's wet, and yet nowhere near the river. She's sprawled on her back under a canopy of trees. No sign kf the river, no sign of Eugene (or Pascal?). After she's had a chance to look around a bit, she will hear something in the woods nearby, something moving.]
