*Darnell and Connor are just... out... they're on vacation, and were invited out with a friend to go camping. It's not really the sort of thing Darnell has done before, but it sounded like it could be a fun experience. Camping? Fishing? Away from it all for a few days? Sounded like a calming way to spend some time with Aaron and Karina, Aaron being a friend from MI5. They were looking forward to sharing some down time with Darnell and Connor, campfire stories, s'mores, camp pies, and maybe even some rafting definitely a little bit of fishing.*

*Darnell is excited - he's never been camping before. Connor too is looking forward to this, as it seems it will be like nothing he's ever experienced, and he can put his capabilities to the test in whole new ways, maybe tracking animals or ID'ing plants in the wild.*

Aaron: *waves at Darnell comes to a stop in the camping grounds parking area.* Darnell! Connor! *tall man, thin, younger than Darnell, always has a friendly smile for Darnell and Connor, and has been great to work with.*

Karina: *not tall at all, but she's friendly and open, and has gladly had Darnell and Connor over for dinner on occasion. She also waves at them.* Got your backpacks? *they've got a little bit of a hike to reach the campsite.*

Darnell: Hey! Yup. In the back seat. *will get out of the car and open the back seat door to pull his pack out, Connor doing the same on the other side*

Aaron: *pulling his pack out of the car, along with two long bags. He brought the tents.* Let's go then.

Karina: *already has her backpack on her back* Are you looking forward to this? *asking both*

Darnell: Yup! I've never done this before, so I'm excited.

Connor: *nods with a small grin* I am. Aaron, would it be easier for you if I carry those? *meaning the tent bags, since he won't tire*

Aaron: Nah, I got these, but if you think you can handle the ice chest in there, go for it, otherwise, we'll come back for it. Or you can grab up the chairs. We'll be making at least one more trip back, so don't feel you need to try to grab it all.

Karina: *grins* Good! I'm glad you're looking forward to it. It should be fun. Relaxing.

Connor: *small grin* I'll get the ice chest. *it's the heavier of the two, likely, so probably best for him to carry*

Aaron: *watching curiously...*

*and... despite Connor's superior strength and stamina... he'll find the thing too big and too heavy for him, he'll have to help either Darnell or Aaron carry it later.*

Connor: *frowns . . . and decides to get the chairs instead*

Aaron: *chuckles* Yeah, I had a feeling that would be a bit much, even for you. We’ll grab it together on the next trip. We’ll want to be quick, I don’t want a bear to tear into my car for our food.

Connor: *frowns again* A bear could do that?
Darnell: Don't suppose you remembered the bear repellent, did you?
Connor: *gives him a look, not sure if he's joking or that's really a thing*

Aaron: Oh yes. A bear could quite easily tear apart a car if it thinks there is food inside. Which is why I told you to make sure you got your car washed, inside and out, before coming. We’ve got pepper spray if needed, and have ropes and pulleys to keep the chest about twenty feet off the ground so bears can’t get it, /and/ it’ll be kept apart from camp, just in case.
Karina: Try not to stress though. We’ve seen bears, but have never been hassled by any.

Darnell: *brows UP* Wow...good to know.
Connor: *after combing the internet with a speed faster than most search engines* True. With the proper precautions and knowledge of how to respond should a bear come around to the campsite, encounters can be kept to a minimum if not avoided altogether.

*Connor will find his signal is spotty. He’ll manage to get what he is looking for, but barely.*
Aaron: Yep. Just have to be smart and we’ll be fine. We’ve done this a lot.

Connor: *deeply concerned by that, but won't say anything*
Darnell: Good deal. Lead on!

Aaron: We come to this place every year. It’s quiet, secluded, and nice. This time of year we’re unlikely to have anyone else intruding on our space, and we’re likely to encounter some deer.
Karina: I hope we do! We like to give them a marshmallow or two if they come around.
Aaron: They have the last two years, they may be getting used to us.

Connor: That's not necessarily a good thing. *said with a small grin despite the words - in spite of himself, he's kinda hoping they do, just to see one for himself*
Darnell: Not necessarily bad either, if they can tell humans apart to know safe ones from...well, everyone else.

Aaron: I think they’re smarter than people think.
Karina: I think so too. We were here with a larger group once. One of the guys was a total douchebag, deer wouldn’t let him close. Let anyone else close, but not him.

Connor: That is good to know.
Darnell: If they do come around, it'll be interesting to see how - or if - they'll react to Connor.
Connor: I'm sure I smell quite different from anything they've ever encountered before.

Karina: I’m sure you are.
Aaron: So is it really true you’ve /never/ been camping? Ever?

Darnell: *shrugs with a wry grin* I was out on one investigation a few years ago for so long that I catnapped under a tree a few times before I was done. Does that count?

Aaron: *snerks* No. ...well maybe a little, but this will be a whole different experience.

Darnell: *snickers in turn* I should hope so. Sleeping out under the stars loses a lot of its romance when there's nothing more than rocks under /you/.

Aaron: Well, sleeping bags aren’t much better, but we’ll at least try to keep the rocks swept away.
*It’s about a ten minute hike from the car to the camp site. Karina will stay to start preparing the grounds for tents while the guys head back to the car for the food, chairs, and anything else still needed. Connor may or may not notice that at the campsite he has no signal at all...*

Connor: *frowning* Aaron, do you have a short-wave radio or other means of contacting emergency services should they be needed? There's no cell wi-fi service out here at all.
