Darnell: *looks around . . . you know, that little demon dog thing probably didn't take him /too/ far...finally huffs a soft sigh* Might not be a bad idea. Again, if I'd not be imposing. I'm Darnell, by the way. *starts to offer his hand the way he's used to, but then corrects himself*

*They...apparently don't know about the clasp, though One will awkwardly accept Darnell's hand.* 

One: Ah, Helaren, sir.

Two: Fornel, sir.

Three: Talim, sir...

Helaren: *will.... hesitate a moment then crouch to try again to start a fire.*

Darnell: Oh...ah...sorry, I thought this was the proper grasp among j'har...?

Helaren: *shrugs* I...didn't know there was one, sir.

Darnell: Oh...well...I've, encountered a few others who prefer to shake hands this way - *shows with his own hands* - and yesterday, I was finally told it was because j'har have had masters and slavers shake hands over them like this - *shows them* - so many times that they can't see it as a positive thing anymore. And I can't say I blame them. So they came up with something else they /can/ feel good about. *shows the 'j'har' handshake again*.....maybe it's not a universal thing yet? I think it's a good idea, though.

Fornel: Ah...we've all been...rather sheltered. Sir. *looks at Helaren still trying to start a fire...*

Helaren: *starting to look frustrated with his failed attempts.* 

Darnell: Please...not sir. Just Darnell. I'm no one special. Especially here.

Fornel: *glances at Darnell, really? He... finally moves to Helaren* Let me try. *figures they can all keep trying until one of them gets it...*

Helaren: *huffs, and passes off the flint and steel to Fornel.* 

Talim: *just kind of *watching Darnell, he seems...intrigued by him*

Darnell: *watching Fornel, wishing he could help*

*It'll...take a couple minutes, but Fornel will manage to get a fire going. When he does he actually lets out a soft whoop of triumph before getting the  pot over the fire to start cooking.*

Darnell: *just as excited!* Fornel, good job!

Fornel: *blushes* Thank you.  

Darnell: Is there anything I can help with?

Fornel: No, it's all right. Talim, get our bowls.

Talim: Right. *will start to get up*

Helaren: I've got them, Talim. *he'll go for the tent before Talim can get up.*

Darnell: .......can I help at least dish up? I mean... *wants to help*

Fornel: Ah... sure. *seems fine with that.*

Darnell: *good, will do what he can*

Talim: *He’s been /studying/ Darnell, and finally... he has to ask* Wh-what happened to your chest? *where Darnell was clawed.*

((Darnell’s thoughts? Mental reactions to being poisoned?))

Helaren: *steps to Darnell and shoves the man onto his back. He presses the pillow down over Darnell’s face, smothering him.*
Fornel: Wh-what are you doing?
Helaren: He’s human. He’s playing nice now, but he’ll betray us, return us to DuPrey. I /won’t go back to that monster.
Fornel: Y-you’re going to kill him?
Helaren: It’s the easiest way to keep us safe.
Talim: /Stop!/ *leaps on Helaren, pulling the man away so Darnell can breathe again.*
Helaren: Ah! Talim?! *shocked more than anything!*
Talim: *doesn’t bother trying to wrestle. With Helaren off of Darnell the boy throws himself back to Darnell, shielding him. Tremvling hard he curls up over Datnell’s head, peaving a hollow between his stomach and Darnell’s face.* Don’t. He’s been nice to us, why would you tey to kill him?
Helaren: He’s /human/, Talim. He /will/ send you back to master!
Talim: *Darnell will feel him shudder.* I-I’d rather that than murdering someone who’s not hurt us.
Helaren: ...Fine, but I’m not staying here to fins out what he’ll do.
*Helaren will pack up anything he can carry...and will leave. Fornel will go with him, scared of what Darnell will do to him for not protesting the attempted murder.*

Darnell: *at first, he was confused by what was wrong and too shocked to think…and then he had a pillow over his face! He didn't want to die! But then, Talim pulled Helaren off and all he can do is listen to what's being said . . . relief when the two leave . . . b-but h-he still can't move . . . *

Talim: *stays as he is, trembling and crying. He’s scared. Master’s need someone to punish for wrongs done and he’s the only one left to pay for this wrong, but he can’t make himsef abandon Darnell either. Finally he sits back up, cupping a hand over Darnell’s bose and mouth... he’s breathing, good. He shifts back a little and picks up one of Darnell’s hands, juat holding it. For all he knows, Darnell may die anyway.*
*He won’t. darnell’s will feel the effects start to wear off. He’ll find his muscles starting to obey him again, even if he’s been left feeling /weak/.*

Darnell: *wonders if he will too and how long it'll take. A-at least he won't die alone? But then, his breathing will grow ragged with his stress, his watering eyes will finally blink, and his hand twitches before closing around Talim's, clinging for a moment before he's finally able to start to shift and move*

Talim: *soft gasp whrn Darnell grips his hand.* A-are you okay? I-I’m sorry. I’m sorry. *wants to say he didn’t know, but it probably diesn’t matter if he knew or mot.*

Darnell: *groans, shuddering as he lets go of Talim's hand and rolls slowly to his side* I-I don't know. W-what…what happened?

Talim: I-I-I don’t know. I think H-Helaren put something in your soup...

Darnell: *soft huff* Yup, must have. *sits up carefully, looks at Talim* Thank you. I…thank you. For…for saving me. And staying.

Talim: *soft huff of his own, more tear slipping down his cheeks.* I-I don’t want to see anyone hurt.

Darnell: *nods* I owe you my life. That was a brave thing you did, standing up to your companion. And to address his concern, no, I have no intention of returning you to your former master or betraying you in any other way. I don't like seeing people hurt, either. And I /hate/ how j'har are treated. It's unfair and inexplicably cruel.

Talim: *huffs and tries to wipe his face, but more tears just fall.* Wh-what do we do now? They took everything.

Darnell: *reaches to give his shoulder a soft, supportive squeeze* /We/ go back to what /I/ was originally up to, trying to find my way back to my settlement. I can't imagine I was dragged /too/ far off. *uh…despite the weird time lapse…* They took everything, and I hope they're able to make use of it. I didn't have anything to start with, so… *shrugs*
