Baby: *little cry, and kind of snaps at Mallard, but it's halfhearted.*

Mallard: Easy . . . easy, little one. *continuing to move slowly, he'll shift around Darnell and right up to the creature, and will start doing an exam as best he can, mostly sight and touch*

Baby: *fine until the doctor touches around his hips, and then he lets out a definite /yelp/ and with turn to snap, definitely trying to bite until the doctor pulls his hand back*

Mama: *rumbles, a wing shifting to "watch" Mallard, though she doesn't otherwise do anything.*

Mallard: */flinches/ in spite of himself, pulling back* Mn, yes, well . . . I do believe you hit the nail on the head with this one, Master Detective. Obviously, the poor thing will need to be restrained before I can do more, I'm afraid. And Mother too, I'm sure.

Darnell: *nods* That's what the tranqs are for.

Mallard: Indeed . . . though before we attempt that, I...think I'd like to examine the mother. If you think she'll let me... *eyeing her*

Zero: She's not injured, so I'd imagine she's less likely to snap at you...

Mallard: *wry grin* My boy, I was thinking less that she's injured, and more that I'm still a stranger and would be poking and prodding in ways she might not like.

Darnell: *stands, helping Mallard back up* I'll work with you. C'mon.

Zero: *he can't help the brow that goes up at the "my boy" but doesn't comment.*

Mama: *rumbles at them when they get up, watching them, but doesn't move*

Darnell: *will move to her first, petting and getting close, kind of snugging to her, even* It's okay, Mama. It's all right.

Mama: *rumbles and settles... accepting his touch*

Darnell: *will get up to help when she gets up, though if she draws him back with her, he'll let her*
Mallard: *gets things into place and set up, the looks at the men* I'll need shots of both mother and infant. Perhaps if she sees me use this machine on both of you - *meaning Darnell and Thomas* - she'll be more inclined to come settle herself for photos as well.
Darnell: *nods* I'm game. *will love on Mama a bit as he pulls himself away from her to approach Mallard and the new machine*
Mallard: Good lad.
*He'll will have Darnell lay down prone, then up on one side, then the other, both times with his knees pulled up a bit, positioning himself a little like a dog (or Mama) would be laying. The machine makes a lot of noise and she might sense energy projections from it as Mallard moves it a few times with each position, but Darnell never moves or looks distressed, so regardless of how scary it might sound, it's not doing him any harm.*
