Darnell: *nods* I don't think I have any skills that will be useful here, and I don't know how long it will to get proficient enough with something to sustain myself.

Zanthe: You don't have to sustain yourself. Just work, help, be willing to learn. You will /not/ be the first who comes here with no skills to offer. A lot of the j'har here are runaways from up north with no skills other than serving their master. You'll be fine, Darnell. Trust me.

Darnell: ...*nods* I just don't want to be a burden, nor do I want to test anyone's generosity. Where I'm from, even the most generous and well-intentioned social programs fall short of people's actual needs, leaving them perpetually suffering and scrambling to get by from month to month and day to day.

Zanthe: You won't be a burden. I'm sure of it.

Darnell: *nods* Thank you. *is ready to follow her, standing with one hand on Ari's shoulder*

Ari: *staying /close/ to Darnell, nervous of people...*

Zanthe: All right, go on and pick out some clothes. Three to five sets. I’ll meet you back by the door.

Darnell: ...*ventures into the warehouse, gazing around at everything, really impressed...hand brushes over some journals as he passes them, finally finds and gathers three sets of clothes, doesn't want to be greedy*

*Zanthe will have a bag for him, much like his own satchel, but a bit bulkier, when he meets her back by the door.*

Zanthe: I’ve got you everything you should need for keeping clean. Soap for your hair and body, towels, some scrub brushes, including one for your teeth, and a razor to shave with. *grins* And a little surprise.

*that little surprise will be a couple blank journals with some graphite. She saw how much he filled up the one he’d come here with, and how he eyed the ones near the front as he passed them, so...

Darnell: *eyes /light/ up at the sight of the journals* Ah! Thank you! Are you sure this is all right?

Zanthe: Positive. C’mon. Let’s go get cleaned up. We’ve got a rather special set up here.

Darnell: *follows, really curious about this "special set up"*

*The pathe to the bath houses leads up a hill a bit where two large buildings stand. Zanthe waves doesn a j’har man also approaching for a bath.*
Zanthe: Jimn! Perfect timing. Jimn, this is Darnell. He’s new here and needs some guidance. Would you show him around the men’s bathhouse for me? *grins*
Jimn: *gives Darnell a friendly grin and offers his hand.* Pleased to meet you. *nods at Darnell’s blood clothes* You safe to get on?
Zanthe: He is. Mathais healed him.
Jimn: Great! I’m sure you’re eager to get cleaned up then. Shall we?

Darnell: *can't help staring for an instant - Jimn might misread it as a human surprised (and put out?) by a j'har acting like an equal...or correctly read him as something on the line of 'still not over the sight of a real-life elf'. After an instant, he remembers himself and takes takes the offered hand* S-sorry. Pleased to meet you too, Jimn. *looks down at his bloody...and /very/ different...clothes* Ah...yes. Thank you.

Jimn: *patient, and grin widens when Darnell takes his hand.* C’mon then. *will head for the bathhouse on the right.* This one here is for the men. I hope you’re not shy, it is a comunal bath house.

Darnell: Ah... *frowns - yes, actually, he kind of is, or at least rather private (not to mention...that cursed brand...)* I'd like a tour of how the place works and then I think I'll come back later.


((Man, totally forgot about it till just now. Terris won't have seen it, since he likely put his shirt back on as soon as he could and has been wearing it since, but Zanthe did when he first pulled it off to try to use to bind himself with...and Mathais would have touched it in his sweep.))

Jimn: It’ll likely be only us for now. If your self-conscious about yourself or any scars, don’t be. No one will ask questions or intentionally do or say anything to make you uncomfortable. But I’ll give you the tour and you can bathe when you please. *he leads Darnell in. The air is full of steam, warm, without being too hot.* We have natural hot springs here, though we’ve found a way to bring it up and to heat it a bit more ourselves. The set up also allows us to filter it after it’s been used to water the gardens, fields, and oarchards. The minerals seem to be as good for the plants as they are for our bodies.

Darnell: *looks around* This is really impressive. Reminds me of- *"spas in Japan I've read about" but…he can't really say that, can he?* …some places I've heard of…

Jimn: Yeah? I’d never heard of anything like this before I came here. So over here are places to set your belongings. *there are cubbies aling the wall, and whats looks to be a semi-private changing area that Jimn points out. A place with showers, but there’s bothing private about them. Yes! They have water that moves through pipes! Far as he knows it’s the first place to have such technology! So he can wash in the showers or relax in one of the baths. Frankly, with the way the warm water in the baths moves, and because of all the minerals, the water is kind of milky and so likely offers more privacy than a shower. And Darnell and Jimn truly are the only two in here right now.* What do you say? Join me? Best time of day to have the baths this empty.

Darnell: *the water may be milky, but the shower's much quicker. He's never really taken a bath, per se, before, let alone just lounged in one - to him, bathing is for getting clean* ……..you have running water. *nodding at the showers*

Jimn: *nods* Sure do. *motions* Donmt let me stop you. If Zanthe is playing guide for you, though, you’ll be waiting a while. She tends to take her time. *not saying Darnell can’t shower and go, just letting him know he could have nothing to do for a bit if he does.*

Darnell: *small grin as he nods* She gave me some new journals from the warehouse. It'd give me a chance to break them in. *will go ahead and get a quick shower, being careful to keep his right arm close to himself or his body between it and Jimn, without being /obvious/ about hiding his arm (or trying to not be obvious) . . . will quickly dry off and dress, wrapping everything carefully to tuck back into his new satchel*

*Danrell won't have to hide anything. Jimn will slip into a bath and wash up, and then lounge a bit. He’ll chat a bit with Darnell, asking how he met Zanthe, what brought him here, stuff like that. As Darnellms voice starts moving across the room again he’ll with the man a good evening.*

Darnell: *will answer, phrasing things as believably as he can to not give away his COMPLETE alienness to this world, going with the "escaped from slavers" story that Zanthe gave him - before leaving, he'll say as much and bid Jimn good evening, thanking him . . . outside, he'll settle against the wall of the building overlooking the town...and start sketching*

Ari: *sits by Darnell, watching him draw* ...I’ve always loved your drawings...

Darnell: *looks at Ari* ………….you've seen a lot of dark stuff. *since that's a lot of what he normally draws*

Ari: True, but you have amazing skills, you capture sobmuch detail. And I can tell doing so helps you.

Darnell: ………… *nods* It does. It gets the images out of my head so I can sleep at night. And . . . thank you. *for the compliments*

Ari: *carefully nuzzles Darnell’s shoulder.*

Darnell: *reaches up to pet/scratch at his head and jaw* I'm sorry if you've been around for some of my cases and seen the things I've seen.

Ari: I’m sorry you’ve been the focus of some of them. Those were...really messed up.

Darnell: …………..you're in the business long enough, you get some /someone's/ naughty list.

Ari: You’ve never been the naughty one, though.

Darnell: True . . . but see it from their side for a moment. You are someone who wants something, and you're the kind of person who doesn't care what it takes or who it hurts for you to get what you want. Someone comes in and ruins the plans you've made, all the effort you've put into gaining what you've been working for so hard. So you're angry at them. You blame them. And you're going to make them pay for what they've done to you. *a pause* Not /you/, of course. I'm speaking from the point of view of these other people. I don't agree with it, I think it's /terrible/…but on one level, I can somewhat understand it.
