Ari: *loves on him, pressing into him, as he translates for the others*

Terris: *will slip out to find Mathais*

Zanthe: *rests a hand on his back* You're going to be all right, Darnell. Promise.

Darnell: ........ *nods  PLEASE let this work*

Mathais: *riding on Terris's shoulder* Friend Darnell. *a greeting.*

Darnell: Mathais. *clearly braced and uncertain*

Mathais: Will you allow me to heal you, Friend Darnell?

Darnell: ...yes.

Mathais: Do you wish for me to impart knowledge of the common language of this area?

Darnell: */swallows/* Yes. *comes out from a tight throat*

Mathais: Then I will heal your wounds and give you knowledge of this language, nothing more, nothing less. *he'll move to Zanthe's lap beside Darnell and will put a hand on Darnell's hand.* Ready...?

Darnell: *is too nervous to joke, just nods, braced with his eyes closed*

Mathais: *Darnell will fee a tingle sweep through him from head to toe before it concentrates in his side. It'll start to burn a bit, and then there's a sharp /stabbing/ pain goes through his side. It won't last but a few seconds before the pain dulls to just the tingle again.*

Darnell: *breath /hitches/ at the feel of...something...wash through him, then he GASPS at the pain, reminded alarmingly of his brush with Anku all of a sudden* NNNnn! *had gone /rigid/ but then slumps, panting*

Mathais: *will start speaking, voice soft and soothing. That tingle will shift to Darnell’s head and he’ll feel an ache grow. He’ll feel like he could say exactly where in his brain it hurts too.* --you understand my words. When you can understand me, give me a nod. Nod if you can understand what I’m saying. *repeating himself but with slightly different wording so it’s more likely Darnell truly understands when he nods and doesn’t just figure out what’s being said. While unlikely, it’s not impossible, so...*

Darnell: *gaping stare shifts to Zanthe* And get...a b-bath now that we...not travelling a-and you're...I'm...h-healed... *repeating the words he suddenly comprehends after days of not understanding her at all*

Zanthe: *grins!* Just take it slow. Speaking a new language is probably a bit awkward.
Terris: *had stepped away, but comes back now with a cut of tea.* Here. This will easy your ache without making you drowsy.

Darnell: *stares at him for a second, then REMEMBERS, twisting and pulling up his shirt to look at his side*

*His side has a mild ache left over, but not a mark is left. The stitches that were there have been pushed out of the wound and will fall when he pulls the bandaging away.*
Zanthe: *will softly brush her fingers over the spot.*

Darnell: T-that's...not "possible"... *the last in English - he's not thinking about what he's saying, so he switched languages mid-sentence*

Ari: *softly repeats his word for them.*
Zanthe: And yet you see it done.

Darnell: ………………….. *curls in on himself, hunched with both hands over his face, softly* "T-this isn't real . . . this isn't real . . . " *no longer preoccupied by terrible pain, and faced with creatures and powers that aren't possible even in the world that he knows exists in the shadows of his own…he's finally having a bit of a breakdown over everything*

Zanthe: *slips her arm around his shoulders to hug him, combing a hand through his hair. Ari isn’t translating, so she’s just going to hug and comfort silently.*
Terris: *sets the cup aside and rests a hand on Darnell’s shoulder, supportive.*
Ari: *doesn’t... doesn't say anytging, but he’s deooped and will likely apologize the mext time someone speaks to him...*
Mathais: *quietly curled to the side, letting Darnell deal.*

Darnell: *trembling . . . he's sobbing silently, like he learned to do as a child, trying to hide from everyone for a moment while his mind and ability to cope try to deal with everything*

Terris: *softly* Come. Give him some space and a little time to himself. He’s been through a lot lately. *he’ll draw Zanthe and carey Mathais out, pausing at the door to motion Ari with him too.*
Zanthe: *will go with Terris, though she wishes she could just hug Darnell more.*
Ari: *reluctant. He’s always stayed near Darnell in his hardest of times, he just... wasn’t known of or seen then. He’ll finally follow Terris out, sitting just outside the door with his back to the wall.*

Darnell: *winds up slumping over on the couch, curling up . . . after a moment, the amin with their sharp hearing will catch the soft sobs - he's not yet grieved everything he's lost, his family, his friends, his sanity in a sense (at least, it feels like in that moment) . . . it's even worse than when he moved to London and everything was done so differently…at least there he still knew how to turn on a light switch, flush a toilet…he doesn't even have /that/ level of comforting competence here . . . he'll be a long time before they don't hear him anymore…he's passed out into an exhausted sleep*

Ari: *remains outside*
Zanthe: *eventually comes in to quietly start dinner.*

Darnell: *is normally a light sleeper, but again…exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally, so he doesn't wake till the smell of food reaches him* Mnn? *looks around…/sits/ up, startled…a-and remembers, and is cleaning his face on his shirt*

Zanthe: *Smiles* Hey, hon. Feeling better?

Darnell: *looks away, ashamed - nods* Yes, thank you. I'm…I'm sorry about earlier.

Zanthe: You mean for behaving as any normal person would to finally having a pain-free moment to really tegister and deal with the utter insanity thier life has bevome? Darnell, honey, I’d have been worried if you /didn’t/ break down and just /react: sooner or later. *comes to sit by him, hand in his shoulder.*

Darnell: *looks at her, uncertain* You've been so kind, Terris too. I don't want to seem ungrateful.

Zanthe: *smiles* We never even thought it, hon. You’ve had your life turned upsidedown on you and have been too hurt and sick to really deal much. You needed a moment to just react, we know that.

Darnell: *nods…looks around* Terris and the others left, then? Where's Ari?

Zanthe: They did. Ari’s just outside. ...I think he’s just wanting to give you space. *and she wonders if he’s afraid that Darnell will hate him for bringing him here, for being the “cause” of Darnell’s life turning upside down.*

Darnell: *nods* I should…probably do some walking, start getting to know my way around.

Zanthe: *nods* Dinner is almost ready. Eat first?

Darnell: Oh . . . yes, thank you. *wry grin* Does that sound better now, me saying it? *does he have a more natural accent?*

Zanthe: It always sounded good, you just don’t really have an accent now.

Darnell: Thanks. *looks at the kitchen area* Anything I can help with?

Zanthe: Sure. Now that you’re well, I’d welcome your help. C’mon. *will get up and offer him a hand.* Then a bath, then a tpur, eh?

Darnell: Yes . . . though I'm going to need clothes too. *still wearing his bloodstained dress shirt and slacks*

Zanthe: Oh yes. Don’t worry about that. We’ll find something that gits you.
