 Mitham: So what about while you were sleeping? When the raven came in? You were making sounds, though not really talking. Was it related or just a nightmare?

Darnell: *shudders* It was related. It's how he attacks people. We didn't think he'd be able to reach me outside of his old estate . . . but I guess I should have known. *rubs at his arm*

Mitham: What was the dream?

Darnell: *will describe his dream, and will tell Mitham about some of the things he's been told others experience, though he doesn't say who or go into the extent...looks at Mitham* I hope I don't really have to say this, but...you understand that this does /not/ leave this room, correct? None of it. Discuss /nothing/ of what I've told you, any of it, with anyone else. Not even Shaila. *rueful grin* If for no other reason that I don't want her frightened. She needs to rest and concentrate on recovering.

Mitham: *gives him a wry "are you nuts!?" look* Are you kidding?  I don't want to give her nightmares, and no one else would believe me.... or they'd be in on it like those people from your first time here. *besides... he wants to help, he can't do that by betraying Darnell and telling people about this...*

Darnell: *studies him . . . and nods* Anyway, we should try to get some more sleep for now.

Mitham: *nods* Should lock that window...

Darnell: *grimaces* I thought it /was/. *though he can't say for sure, doesn't remember actually checking it . . . will sort through his belongings again really quickly, just making sure everything's still there - if Mitham thinks it's because of him, and voices as much, Darnell will clarify that, no, he just wants to make sure the raven didn't make off with anything . . . finally they'll resettle for sleep*

Mitham: *doesn't say anything, just watches. Darnell will find some feathers and a bloody spot on the floor where Mitham /smacked/ the raven good with the chair.*

Mitham: Yeah. It’s real. *watches Darnell clean up and secure the room.* Glad I could help.

Darnell: *gives Mitham's a quick grip, another silent thank-you, then will settle to...well.../try/ to get some more sleep*

*If Darnell has anymore nightmares, they will be of the more normal and mundane sort.*

*When Darnell wakes he’ll find Mitham already awake. The boy is sitting up in bed, looking thoughtful.*

Darnell: *turns over and looks at him, small grin* Good morning. Did you sleep all right?

Mitham: *nods...and looks at Darnell.* I want to go with you today. *he keeps going before Darnell can protest.* Please hear me out before you just say no. I’ve lived on the streets for a few years now; I’m small, fast, quiet, sneaky, and I know how to look for secret places and things. I might spot something you miss. This crazy is trying to kill you, and if you die, so do I and so does Shaila. *he’s wondered if Rafa and his...wife? Assistant? If the healer and the lady living with him might adopt Shaila if Darnell didn’t come back for them, but he can’t bank on that, he can’t afford to.* I /can’t/ let that happen, and I /can’t/ just sit around waiting for you and wondering if it’ll be you or the police who will come for us. Besides, that evil bird knows about me now, knows I protected you, or at the very least it may want revenge just because I gave it a whollop. Let me help you stop this thing so it foesn’t come after me too, and maybe Shaila... and that healer... *please, please, please let his arguments work!*

Darnell: ...if I die - *soft snort* or /when/, at this rate - I already have contracts in place that anyone in my household goes to a friend of mine whom I trust or to the church in ((Capitol)). You and Shaila would be fine. Brogan doesn't know about Shaila and he wouldn't be able to find you if you're not with me. The only reason he found /me/ is because of this. *holds up his arm* He marked me intimately months ago. *can't argue that the boy might spot things he misses, or hear things that wouldn't be spoken in his earshot...or that he might well already be dead or worse if Mitham hadn't been here...*

Mitham: No we won’t. Even if you put that paperwork in as soon as we leave it’ll take days or weeks to be official. I could be dead by then and Shaila who knows where. And you don't know if he knows about me or not. That bird isn’t normal. Does he know what the bird knows? We don't know! For all we know that crazy will recognize me now and will track me down for nearly killing that bird /and/ for preventing it from taking from you the /one thing/ it seems is protecting you from DuPrae. /Please/, I’m in danger one way or another; either I’m with you and risk getting killed by the thing after you, or you end up dead before that paperwork is done and I’m carted off to be killed for trying to survive. I know it’s possible you’d come back fine, but face it, even your aren’t currently sure of that.

Darnell: ........I could take you to the church here. Overseer Rei would make sure you and Shaila were safely joined with my household. *but he's visibly caving - he knows he'd be just as adamant if it were him...*

Mitham: *shoulders slump a bit.* Please. Please don’t make me just sit and wait. I can’t do anything more to help Shaila, but maybe I can help you... Please.

Darnell: ………………… *runs a hand down his face* Just . . . observe, keep quiet, don't interfere…all right?

Mitham: *nods eagerly* Promise. I won’t be in the way.

Darnell: …all right. *pulls himself wearily upright and will start getting around for the day* Breakfast, stop by the police station to turn in your paperwork and have a set drawn up for Shaila - I'm going to claim her just so no one else can - then to the market to get some proper clothes for both of you. We'll stop by Rafa's to check on Shaila and so I can pay for her care, then we'll head to the DuPrae manor.

Mitham: *nodnod* Yes, sir. *he’ll stay out of the way until Darnell is ready to leave the room, then is right there to follow.*

Darnell: Mn. I should get toiletry supplies for you two also, and a bedroll you can share for the trip home…but that can wait. *will get himself pulled together, face washed, has Mitham do the same, his satchel repacked . . . oh, takes a moment to sit down and fill out Mitham's paperwork too, and a quick drawing of his mark so he can have bracelets made for the kids - with that all done, they'll head down to breakfast* Eat what you want, just eat slow and don't stuff yourself. There will always be enough food now, so there's no call to make yourself sick. By the same token, if there's too much, don't feel you have to finish it all.
