Darnell: *is shifted - you'd think he'd expect things like that by now . . . to Warik* You remember my dad - our dad? Terris?

Warik: *nods* Yes. ...Did something happen?

Darnell: .....y-yeah...something did... *and he'll unload on Warik like he did on Vashti, the full fear of losing his beloved dad coming through without filter*

Warik: *will have shifted to Darnell's side, an arm around him, by the time he finishes the story* Vashti will do all she can. If anyone can heal damage to someone's brain it will be her.

Darnell: *leaning into Warik like he used to do before, appreciating that surrogate-big-brother support* Yup...that's why we came here as soon as we learned what had happened. If anyone can help him, she can. *not going to think about what will happen if she /can't/...*

Warik: */snugs/* Did you two just arrive? Have you had lunch yet?

Darnell: Just arrived. Lady Vashti told us to go get food and some rest.

Lin: *nods, both answering and agreeing* She seems really nice, if...I don't know, formal? *shrugs* Bro's said as much. *so not like she's /surprised/*

Warik: *chuckles* She can be very formal. *he'll shift to head them down the hall, arm still around Darnell's shoulders* But she is also a very good person.

Lin: Yup, that's what Darnell's always said. Kinda looking forward to getting to know her a little on the way back.

Darnell: *nods, still half-tucked to Warik's side*

Warik: *nods* Well, let's get you two fed so you can work on resting for your ride tomorrow.

Lin: Thanks, Warik.

Darnell: Yeah, thank you. *they enter the dining hall, and he's quickly looking around to see who's in here right now*

*not too many people, it's after lunch (thus finding Skif in the stables), but he'll spot Nasha*

Darnell: *will approach, grinning* Milady of the Kitchen.

Nasha: */straightens/* Oh, honey! It's good to see you! *she'll turn and catch him in a hug*

Darnell: *HUGS back, then shifts* Nasha, this is my sister, Lin.

Lin: *offers her hand* Pleased to meet you, Nasha. *crooked grin* I hear you kept my little bro in line while he was here.

Nasha: *laughs and accepts Lin’s hand* Oh, there wasn’t much to do. He’s amazingly well behaved for a young man. I’m guessing his sisters taught him.

Darnell: *faint flush, but he's grinning - he knows Lin, he knows what to expect, he's just glad to see more of his two families interacting - to Nasha* I don't suppose we can trouble you for a quick lunch, could we? Or let me fix something so you don't have to?

Nasha: Only because it’s you, honey. C’mon. *waves him and Lin to a table.* Have a seat and let me grab you something.
Warik: *will sit with them.*

Lin: Thanks. *once Nasha's left, elbows Darnell with a teasing grin* You never said you have a girlfriend, Little Bro.
Darnell: *rolls his eyes* It's just the way she is, Sis.

Warik: *chuckles* She /is/ fond of you, Darnell. *not helping*

Darnell: *flusters a bit* Ah, w-well, yes, but not like that.
Lin: *just /laughs/, shouldering him hard enough that he has to catch himself with his other hand on the bench next to him*

Warik: *chuckles* Sorry, Darnell. You /are/ a little on the young side for her. But it could still work. *ornery*

Darnell: *chuckles, even as he's shaking his head, gesturing* No. If for no other reason than the same one with Raida - I'd be gone way too much. *only saying as much to have something to say at all, he gets that they're just teasing him and is playing along*

Warik: Ah yes. Raida /does/ have first dibs on you, doesn’t she? *but then he’s done teasing.* Speaking of, how /is/ the rest of your family? Aside from worried...

Darnell: *cheeks color softly even as he chuckles, then will go into how everyone is…including his newest four and the case that brought them together*
Lin: *has heard the story only because she and Darnell have had time to visit in the evenings when they've finally stopped for the night, before one of them going to sleep while the other sat up on first watch*

Warik: *shaking his head.* The things you do... are truly amazing Darnell.
Nasha: What kind of trouble has he been into now? *said as she slips plates before Darnell and Lin*
Warik: *laughs* The unbelievable kind, Nasha. Remember the guy who sent an assassin after Mistress?
Nasha: *eyes darken* Who doesn’t?
Warik: Darnell killed him, saved the king, and a /lot/ of abused people.
Nasha: *bops (lightly, just a tap really) the top of Darnell’s head with her ladle* You loon, what would make you face such a man? /Tell/ me you weren’t alone!

Darnell: Oh, I was definitely not alone. I had two King's Guardsmen with me whom I've worked with many times before, plus Raida and a j'har about Skif's age. The kid had /just/ escaped that place only to offer to come back to lead us in because he couldn't describe the way well enough. And I didn't /mean/ to kill the guy, I /meant/ to arrest him, but… *shrugs* … it was probably for the best. Turned out that, on top of everything else, the monster was an Anti-wielder.

Naida: ...Two... Two guardsmen... and a boy... a /runaway/... Darnell, honey, you need someone in your life who will knock some sense into you.

Darnell: Well, not like I could have gone in there with an army. Sometimes fewer is better. I'd have liked to have more, but at the time, there was no one else I could trust. The whole city was being run by corruption and cruelty.

Naida: *eyes narrow and it looks like she’s ready to pummel him for being foolish and reckless. But she lets it go with a huff of a sigh.* Done is done, and you came out of it alive. Don’t know /how/ you manage that sometimes, but you do.

Darnell: ………..I'm not always happy with the choices I have to make, but when the alternatives are even worse and it's all I have to work with, I make what seem like bad choices to people who weren't there. *shrugs, his tone mild - he gets it, it sounds like a really bad idea no matter how he puts it, but…really…what else was he to do?*
