Nasha: *doesn't mind sharing. She was a breeder before coming here. She'd actually fallen in love with the man they had paired her with most often and then he ended up sick and...they killed him. So she ran away, was found and was being taken back when Vashti found her...and yeah, she says Vashti.*

Darnell: *blinks* You...call her by name too?

Nasha: Sometimes. I call her Mistress more often, just out of respect, but all of us use her name too.

Darnell: Is there some point where she gives you permission? Rashek says she's cool and aloof until she gets to know someone...

Nasha: Honey, you could call her by name now if you wanted. She's not going to be upset unless you're using her name to be deliberately defiant and if that was the case it would be obvious in tone or context.

Darnell: *looks down at his plate, shrugs* I've been figuring it's probably best if I stay out of her line of sight as much as possible. I just...want to serve my time and hope to see home again.

Nasha: *puts a hand over his* You don't need to be afraid of her, honey. And you /will/ see home again, Vashti will make sure of it when your time is served.

Darnell: .........that's what everyone keeps saying. *but he's having a hard time accepting - those two weeks of hell are still too fresh, that was only /yesterday/ that he was finally dragged from there, in chains* She didn't even want me the first time around. Why am I here now? *he knows...just, again, having a hard time getting it to sink in*

Nasha: *softly* Honey, if you haven’t noticed, this place is kind of a safe haven for amin and j’har. She didn’t take you at first because of that... it was wrong, she was wrong, which is why you’re here now...

Darnell: ............./was/ she wrong, though? That's...that's what I don't get. She turned me out. She /had/ to have known what that meant. It should /hardly/ have come as a surprise. /I/ knew what I was in for. I knew it as soon as I saw Rai. I'm /not/ amin, I'm /not/ j'har. I...I don't belong here. *okay, now that he's realized that, voiced that, he's...thinking he may have just hit on what's been bothering him about this whole thing*

Nasha: ...I couldn’t tell you what made her change her mind...I wish I could. Maybe it was simply hearing from Tyli and Warik about how you’d treated them and Rai. They told her she should have kept you here, that you /would/ fit with us. I don’t know if there was more to it than that.

Darnell: ...I might fit, but...I don't know if it's deserved. I'm human. If not for humans, you all wouldn't /need/ a sanctuary home. /You/ wouldn't have been bred like a cow. Your love wouldn't have been killed simply because he wasn't a useful stallion anymore. All the abuses heaped on amin and especially j'har simply for /existing/...

Darnell: *shrugs* It's you who deserves better, the j'har and the amin of the world. *softly, gazing at his plate* Including wielders and half-bloods. *he's already said a lot of "dangerous" things, even if it gets all over the household, he doubts it will go farther than the lady...and if she's willing to sit with amin and j'har as equals, even cuddle to one, surely she'd be safe to know he's said such a thing...?*

Nasha: *blinks! ...and smiles.* Yes, honey, you deserve to be here. Life is a precious thing, and you readily acknowledge that it is so for all races.

Nasha: *scoots her chair around beside him and slips an arm around him as they finish dinner. She’ll slip away to bring him a desert. It’s a thin square of some kind of cake that’s a dark brown, almost black, color with some kind if really thick glaze on top.* Ever had chocolate, honey?

Darnell: *shifts an arm around her in return, leaning on her a bit, grateful for the comfort - lets her slip off, looks with interest at what she brings back* Ah...no, never heard of it. What is it?
