Zip: Because I trust Inspector Turboslide's judgement in people.  He trusts you, else he'd never have offered you the job. 

TC: ........... *looks around at the others... and at Turbo*

Turbo: *nods*

*they each meet his gaze and give him a smile and nod.*

FO: If you're worried about being a slave among free mechs... *he reaches up and turns off the holo hiding his collar.*  You wouldn't be. 

Fire: *gives FO's shoulder a supportive clap* He's no different from us, an' you wouldn't be either...well...except you'd outrank us. *Grins* But other than that, no different.

TC: ................. *nods* I see. You're a lucky mech, Fallout. Your master is aware of your position and your treatment here? *acting as passing himself off like a free mech*

FO: *nods* He does.  I am extremely lucky to have a master who is good to me and encourages my work here. *headtilt* I would imagine that you do too, if you're here to even consider this job.

TC: .............my current master is a very good mech, yes. *for however long that lasts . . . to Turbo* What kinds of issues does the squad deal with? What kinds of calls are typical, or outside of the squad's influence?

Turbo: *will give TC a general idea of issues, as he really can’t get into details unless TC takes the job.*

TC: *yeah he wasn't looking for details, knows they can't discuss current, open cases with him, was just looking for an idea of what his job and theirs would entail - finally nods* Do any of you have any questions of me?

Fire: Haha! Yeah, if Chief wants you, so do we.
FO: *turns his holo cover back on, his question more serious than Wind’s* Can you trust us? Or at least give us a chance to earn your trust? *he knows that’s not easy...took him some time.*

TC: *they accept him, want him...and there's no indication at all of ulterior motive - to FO* What have your experiences and observations been here since you joined? Both within and outside of the squad?

FO: It's not an easy job. It's not going to make you "feel good" when you go home, and you could end up injured while on duty. It /is/ a satisfying job, though. I respect and trust my team, and they respect and trust me. Other officers will do their duty and aid me, even knowing I'm someone's property, but you won't find the same level of trust and respect with them. They may challenge your authority, if you take this position, and you will have to do things that outside of here would get you beaten to ensure that they know they can't walk over you. They will have to learn that you will do your duty, and that they must do theirs. It won't be easy, you may find it frustrating or upsetting, but you will have all of us, including our Chief Inspector to back you up. You won't have to face things alone.

TC: *bit of a frown but also almost nodding, it's as good if not better than he expected...but his optics go a bit hard at the last, a soft snort escaping him before he can catch it* Thank you, but I can handle myself. I've been facing things alone since the day I was sparked, long even before this pit-spawned collar. *he has Sun - and Warp - now of course but that's been so briefly recent compared to the span of his life as to almost not even count yet, and while he /is/ trined, they've been separated far more than they've been together, and support over the bond is invaluable but a trinemate about to be raped or beaten is still alone in facing it . . . huffs a soft vent, tension dropping from his shoulders and wings as he forces himself to let it go, passing a hand over his face* I don't expect anyone to trust or respect me. At best, both must be earned. *looks around - at the mechs, at the room, feeling the welcoming and the lack of threat or fear or malintent* But...if you are willingbto give me a chance, then...I will do the same. *small bow* Thank you.

Twin: *crosses to him and offers his hand* Does this mean you'll join us?

TC: *catches himself shying back from being approached by the police captain, hesitating . . . he's seriously considering this, he's seriously consideing becoming a cop, becoming one of the few kinds of mechs he truly despises (and fears), just like every other slave he's ever met...snd...that's exactly /why/ he's considering, because if he can spare just one poor spark from the horrors he's had to endure...and if these mechs really are anything like the inspector, who's proven himslef to the wounded slave twoce over now . . . the decision is a tough one, actually /making/ the commitment, and that's clear on his face...but he...finally takes Twin's hand* Ye-... *vox buzzes softly, breaking up, and he pauses to reset it before trying again more steadily* Yes. At least on a trial basis. *PLEASE tell him he's not just made a huge mistake!*

Twin: *gives him a smile and a shake. His other hand comes up to gently give TC's shoulder a squeeze.* We're glad to have you with us, then, Captain.
Fire: ....*whoops!* All right!
RC: *startled yelp at Fire's sudden whoop* *she baps the back of his head* Calm down, you glitch. Don't scare him off before he even starts.
Fire: *sheeps* Sorry. It's just...it's so cool. He's a champ gladiator, ya know? It's just kind of awesome t'get ta work with him now. *well, someone is clearly a fan...*

TC: *that actually draws a faint grin* A gladiator's life and accomplishments aren't nearly as glamorous or exciting as the arena owners would have you believe. *to FO* But as I'd guess he can tell you, I'm not unaccustomed to risking grave injury on the job.

Fire: *laughs* Oh, I know. I was a gladiator too once. Still fun to watch, but I found out that I much rather help people than punch 'em. *big grin!*
FO: *little smile and a nod* Hopefully you'll find the risks with this job more worth the outcome.
Turbo: Since you have a new Captain, I expect the lot of you to show him the ropes around here. Get training set up while I make this official. *motions for TC to come with him* First, we need to call Sundance.

TC: *that wipes any mild amusement from him* I think /slave/ gladiators have a different experience of things than you may have had, sir. *he wants NOTHING to do with the arenas and would end the cruel, brutal practice completely if he could - turns to Turbo with a nod* Yes, sir. *moves to follow*

Fire: *mild grimace at that* Yeah, I'd imagine so. *that doesn't change that he enjoys watching sport fights, but not when people are being needlessly abused to make it "entertaining." There's a difference*
Turbo: *will lead TC back to his office and take a seat. If TC doesn't sit, he'll motion TC to the chair across from him.* I assume Sundance has given you written approval for a job? *they just need to get his verbal approval for /this/ job now that it's been offered, and arrange for him to come sign some things.*

TC: *there's also everything behind the scenes, like the floggings for losing no matter how closely, being whored out after a win...he won't bother bringing it up, though, let the mech believe what he will - will settle once he's overtly invited* Yes, sir. Here. *pulls out his datafilm*

Turbo: *will copy it to add to a new employee file for TC. He'll also issue and hand TC a holo cover for his collar.* Clip it on to your collar. You're only allowed to use it while on duty. If you're caught using it while off duty then you'll have to leave it here whenever you leave. *in other words, he's trusting TC to be honorable and only hide that he's a slave when he's legally allowed to* Let's give your master a call, get his verbal agreement, and set a time for him to come down to sign the release to allow you this job. *a prompt for TC to us the phone on the desk to call Sun while Turbo sorts out the file, he even motions at it for TC to go ahead and make the call.*

Sun: Hello? This is Sundance. *who could be calling him?!*

TC: Master Sundancex this is Thundercracker with Inspector Turboslide.

Sun: O-Oh! Is everything all right?
Turbo: Yes. We're calling to get your verbal consent for Thundercracker to accept the position of Captain of my flight subsquad. If you approve of this, then we would need to arrange a time for you to come sign the agreement.
Sun: Oh! Um, yes, of course, if he's accepted your offer, then he has my support. I can come...well ah...anytime really, I guess.

Sun: Um...w-would first thing tomorrow work?
Turbo: Of course. I will see you then.
Sun: Okay. See you then. *he'll hang up if not stopped*
Turbo: I'll give you some reading that can't be found online. Again, don't stress memorizing, just familiarize yourself with it.

Turbo: Is there anything else you want to know before you go?

TC: ...we've not discussed pay, sir. How much will my master be receiving for my work? And will he be responsible for repairs if I'm injured on the job, or does the precinct have medics who will work on slaves?

Turbo: You'll receive the same pay as every other Captain on the force and cared for by the medics here if they deem it necessary just as with every other officer. I'll have you treated no differently than any other.

TC: *small grin* Thank you, sir. I very much appreciate that. Thought that doesn't fully answer the question - I have no idea what a captain makes.

Turbo: *little grin* It'd be easy enough to look up, but *he tells TC the wage. It's a decent amount of money...perhaps with that the three of them can afford to move into an area that won't require them locking the holo away in hiding for fear of thieves in the night....*

TC: *nods* He was insistent, even before you found us. If only for Skywarp's sake, he was promising to do what he could for me. He's...done more than I could ever hope for.
