Kage: *gulps....and puts on a brave and determined face, speaking loudly when DB takes a break to catch his breath for half a heartbeat.  His tone is protective and determined* We found him, sir. Some other kids were beating him up. We stopped them. You...will you help him? I know he's j'har, but he's no different from us! He deserves to be treated too! I....please...? *so worried that Terris will say no.* *all of this for a boy thrashing in his arms, calling him names.*

DB: */stops/ thrashing and cursing when he spots the HUGE AMIN - suddenly he's /pressing/ back into Kage, eyes HUGE*  P-please . . . please, lemme go! LEMME GO!

Terris: Oh Kagerou. You don't have to convince me, son. I agree with you.

Kage: *deflates with a huff.* Thank you.  *he’s still hugging DB, supportive as much as restraining* We’re not going to hurt you.  Promise.  Not at all, and we won’t let anyone else hurt you either.  Ever again.

Terris: *will wet a rag and then come crouch before DB.* My name is Terris. Will you tell me your name? *he reaches up and will gently start to wash the dirt and blood from DB’s face.  He’d had a bloody nose from the boys beating her before, and a split lip.*

DB: *twists enough to give Kage a glower, /not/ believing him . . . /presses/ back into him when the amin approaches, BUCKS when he reaches for him* NNNNnnnnnn!!!  LEAVE ME ALONE!

Terris: Shhhh.  It's okay.  You're going to be okay now.  *his touch is gentle, but firm enough to get the grime off* There.  My, my, I do believe there's a little boy under all that dirt. *he gives DB a smile, trying to soothe him*

DB: *chin tucks, glowering sullenly at him, Kage will feel how hard he's SHAKING*

Terris: *he puts a gentle hand on Kage's wrist and will coax Kage into letting go of DB* I'll not hurt you.  You have a fever. *could feel that when he touched DB's face*  I can't tell if that is because you're sick or if you have an injury that's starting to get infected.  Either way, without treatment, if you leave now you'll not last long.  Will you let me treat you? *and DB saw with his mom how slow and horrible it is to die on the streets from sickness...*

DB: *just stares back for a moment . . . b-but then his eyes fill with tears . . . and then he just goes /limp/ in Kage's arms, softly sobbing again . . . he's just...he's done...he can't deal with this anymore*

Kage: *had mostly let go, but when DB starts to sag he gasps and catches him, to hold him up*

Terris: *will gently take DB from Kage, scooping the skinny little thing into his arms* You’re going to be okay.  *He’ll go sit at the table, DB snuggled to his chest....he’ll worry about wounds and sickness in a moment, the boy needs to grieve...*

DB: *pushes at him* N-noooooooo….. *really, at this point, he doesn't know /what/ he wants – when the amin settles at the table with him on his lap, he just . . . curls up and SOBS*
Maru: *finally moves away from the door, joining his brother*

Kage: *wishes there was more he could do, but figures it's best to leave him to Terris now. He'll lead his brother to get cleaned up....*
Terris: *rocks him gently, a hand softly rubbing DB's arm. He'll even hum a ver soft tune. He wonmt try to shish or hurry DB, he'll jusy hold the boy until he's cried out.*

DB: *is a /long/ time before he quiets, and then he's /exhausted/*

Terris: *will gently start washing his face again.* Kagerou. Shadowmaru. Will you get our little friend some food?

Maru: Yes, of course. *moves to do so*
DB: *snorts, bitter* J'har. Not friend. J'har can't be friends with humans. *pushes back to look up at Terris, the sulken defiance back* And you can't make me stay here.

Terris: There are always exceptions. I do not care what the law says about you, you are a living being, no different than I, no different than they. *nods at Kage and Maru. When DB pushes back to look at him he'll gently clean the side of the boy's face that was against his chest.* I will not, but I sincerely hope you'll consider it. At least until you're well?
Kage: *quietly helping his brother get some food for DB.*

DB: ........*looks away, shaking his head* I can't. If anyone sees me here, they'll take me to the markets. I'd...I-I'd rather get sick and die!

Terris: No they wouldn't. You would be safe here, protected. You would not have to worry about the markets.

DB: *pouts* Why? Because I belong to you now?

Terris: If you decide to stay, then I will take the necessary legal steps to make sure you are protected. *gently hooks DB's chin with a finger* But it would only be to protect you. If you stay it will be as my son, as Kagerou and Shadowmaru are. I will protect you, feed you, give you a bed to sleep in. I will teach you to read and write, I will teach you medicine, how to hunt and cook. In return I would expect you to help Kagerou and Shadowmaru with chores here, I would expect you to be attentive to your lessons, and I would expect you to be reapectful of me and your new brothers, just as I expect the same from them.
