Darnell: */perks/! . . . Aiden? Please say it's Aiden and he's all right!*

*It is! Aiden comes into view from Darnell's right, and the nightmaw lets out a /snarl/*

Aiden: */freezes/, Kokeli on his shoulder, hand on a knife at his belt and eyes on the nightmaw*

Darnell: Oh! No! No no no, it's okay. *puts a hand on her - safe, pack, help, friend, good, help, safe, friend* *other hand out to Aiden in a "hold on" gesture*

Aiden: *....eases off his knife* You....what happened?

Nightmaw: *unease, protectiveness, a few of the same kinds of thoughts he got from her when she snapped at her pack who tried to take Darnell from her.*

Darnell: Easy, girl. Easy. *will pet/scratch/love on her as he shifts his attention to Aiden* Kind of a long story. Short, /short/ version . . . I'm not entirely sure. Short-ish version - I fell down a slope, she was there injured with a thorn clean through her paw, I managed to get it out . . . I think she protected me from the rest of her pack, or at least from a handful of her kind . . . "protect" might or might not be the right word. She'd laid claim to me, at least. That's what I got from her. When I continued on to head this way, she . . . *shrugs* . . . started following. What is she? Is /this/ a nightmaw? *he can certainly see why they are so feared!*

Aiden: ......Got from her...? You can hear her mind? ...Yes,...she's a nightmaw.

Nightmaw: *with no attack coming she relaxes, just rumbling in her chest at Aiden.*

Darnell: *nods* Found out incidentally. She only thinks in emotions and impressions, reactions. Or anyway, that's all I get from her and all she seems to understand. *small, wry grin* And she's discovered she really likes head scratches. They feel really good. *as he does so on her*

Aiden: ..............You are a rare person, Darnell. *he'll slowly approach* Hand me Sak, we've a long way to go yet...
