*The room is dark but for a faint red glow from the lines of blood dried into the canals carved into the floor...and after a moment his pendant starts to glow with a soft white light.*

Darnell: *studies the design, studies his necklace...slowly approaches, watching both closely for changes*

*They’ll both brighten, and a white-ish mist will start to pour from the pendant. And...something seems to be forming in the air above the shiomai. It’s dark and hard to make out.*

Darnell: *mutters under breath at the mist* Thaaaat can't be good. *will crouch just outside of the closest edge of the design and gently swing the pendant above the lines into the design without touching anything*

*There’s a hiss and a pop and he’ll see the red glow part around his pendant.*

Brogan: *voice ephemeral.* You are certainly a /pest/, detective.

Darnell: *eyes widen at the effect, can't help /flinching/ at the voice, looking around for the source...swallows to make sure his voice is steady* Funny, I'd say the same of you, demon.

Brogan: *he's the...darkness forming over the shiomai* *he chuckles* You're in my element now, Detective. I'll leave you screaming in sweet agony before I let you die.

Darnell: ...not if I destroy you first. *wishes his voice sounded stronger, but at least it's steady? He looks around and cautiously swings the pendant into the glow above the grooves again*

Brogan: You'll never manage. *it's a snarl*

*it pops and hisses again and... the "hole" in the red light seems large. The white mist from the pendant seems to be flowing into the circle when he does that too.*

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

*As more and more of the barrier is melted away the more violent the lightening gets. By the time Darnell has about half of the barrier melted away the Brogan figure over the stone has finally fully formed. He /snarls/ and /lunges/ at the mist woman. The cry she lets out will be... familiar to Darnell. He knows that voice...he's just not heard it in a very, very long time.*

Darnell: *yeah, he was afraid of that!* REI! Rei, I need your help! *if no one's peeked in before now to see what the hell's going on, they might or might not be surprised by the (fear!) alarm in his voice*

*He won't even know if they can hear him, and to make it even worse, he'll hear Brogan start to /laugh/. Darnell will be able to continue around the barrier. Once the outer ring of blood is gone the barrier will be gone. Brogan is still going after the spirit. She's fighting as well she can, but he's definitely stronger. From this angle, if Darnell looks, he'll see that the woman is his mother, fighting tooth and nail to protect her son. Before Darnell can go for the shiomai a bolt of lightening hits him in the chest. It'll steal his breath away, leaving him unable to breathe for a moment. The door is barely opening, the people outside struggling to get in. Only Mitham is small enough to slip through.*
Mitham: *he leaves forward and /kicks/ the shiomai out of the circle.*
Brogan: */curls/ up suddenly with a pained /howl/*

*He won't /hear/ anything, but he'll sense an urging to keep going.*
Darnell: M-mom... *tears in his eyes - is this hurting her? Is he going to lose her again? . . . but what choice does he have? He huffs a soft sob and slaps his hand down on the shiomai, the pendant caught between the stone and his palm, /willing/ this to work but to spare his mother!*
*The white shimmer begins to form again, and as that starts to happen Brogan's black form materializes again. He /dives/ towards Darnell with a desperate cry! He hits Darnell, and all will go black for him. He'll find himself sitting in a black place, nothing around him, no light, and yet he's able to see. The pain in his chest is still there, and his brand aches, and after a moment he'll find his mom materializing before him.*
Darnell: */cries/ out, trying to dodge without moving his hand as Brogan dives at him, but he doesn't make it, and all goes black. Shuddering, he straightens and looks around, then watches the form materialize, tears on his cheeks* Mom... *reaches for her*
Rosalyn: *smiles and reaches for him, taking his hand. Yes, he can feel her here.* Look at you, my little boy, all grown up... Oh Darnell, I'm so proud of you.
Darnell: *sobs, wanting to pull her to him, to /hug/ her, afraid to somehow lose her if he does* M-mom! I-I miss you...I love you!
Rosalyn: *softly cups his cheek* I love you too. I always have, and I always will.
Darnell: ... *can't help it, he finally pulls her into a /TIGHT/ hug!* I love you! I love you! *has to just.../cling/ to her for a moment, just a moment...at least...*
Rosalyn: *HUGS back, just clinging back for a long moment. Finally, reluctantly, she shifts back* You can't stay here, Darnell, there is still so much you can do.
Darnell: *reluctantly shifts back as well* Where /are/ we? What happened? How are you even /here/ at all?
Rosalyn: Your pendant drew me to you. I could feel that you were in danger. This place is...an in between, a place for the dead. Go back, son. You have too much to live for yet, and you have a choice to continue on yet.

Darnell: Are you all right, Mom? Wherever you were before you were pulled here? Will you be able to go back? I wish Cat and Lin were here. There's so much to say! Cat's married. She has kids. Lin has someone too. She's such a strong fighter. Terris took us in. He saved us. Mom, what happens next? *babbling, and he knows it, but he doesn't care*

Rosalyn: *smiles and puts her fingers to his mouth to quiet him* I cannot answer all your questions, but yes, I can go back, and I am fine. Tell your sisters I love them, and I am proud of them as well. *she steps close and gives his forehead a light kiss. When she steps back she'll start to vanish.*
*Darnell will feel a sharp pain in his chest, and then another, and another, and then he wakes in the stone room, Elhokar over him.*
Elhokar: *was doing chest compressions, but he stops when Darnell wakes.* Detective! *he'll help Darnell sit up if the young man doesn't fight him off too hard.*

Darnell: *soft, strangled cry as he starts to fight, realizes it's Elhokar...rolls to his side to curl up for a moment, sobbing silently*

Elhokar:*hand on Darnell's shoulder*
Mitham: *he moves in by Darnell's head and rests a hand on Darnell's head*
