*It’s been a little over a week since Darnell came to Vashti’s house. He’s been invited again to join the group to go hang out. Whe he gets to the door, though, he’ll see something, or rather someone, he’s not yet seen before, a half-blood man. He’s settled by Zasha and is playing a lute while she plays drums and sings.*

Darnell: */jumps/, spinning around* Nnn! N-no, just enjoying the music. I didn't want to interrupt. *glancing at the other two - sorry!*

Woman: *j’har, average height. She narrows her eyes at him, sizing him up.*
*The man and Zasha are watching the two now, but havn’t stopped their song. Warrik, Tyli, Nasha, and Skif are watching too.*

Darnell: *gazes back, glances at the others...shoulders slump, hands up* Sorry. I was just leaving. *no hate, no anger, just sadness - he REALLY doesn't want any trouble. He moves to leave*

Woman: *catches his arm and pulls him back.* I’m not done with you.
Warik: Vin, let up. Keziah is safe with Darnell, I’ve no doubt of it.
*Zasha and Keziah have stopped singing now.*
Keziah: *sets his lute aside and gets up, crossing to the door. He sets a hand on Vin’s shoulder as he steps up beside her, but he’s looking at Darnell. He offers his hand* I’m Keziah.
Vin: *will let go of Darnell, watching him*

Darnell: *Vin? ....Vin! Right, he remembers that name now...oh, boy. He readily takes Keziah's hand, his grin genuine but tempered by Vin's presence at his elbow* Darnell. Pleased to meet you. *glances between the two of them* Look, I have no issue with anyone, not based on race or parentage. I don't want any trouble. Like I said . . . I was just leaving. *to Keziah* You have a beautiful voice. *if not stopped, he'll slip past Vin and out the door*

Keziah: Thank you. Please, you don’t have to go.
Vin: ...Come sit. I know you were invited. *will go sit too*
Tyli: *will also come to catch Darnell with an arm around his shoulders.* C’mon, hon.

Darnell: *hesitant but lets Tyli pull him into the room, settling with everyone*

Tyli: *will snuggle Darnell to her side.*
*everyone will settle and Zasha and Keziah will do another song and then the group will chat. Vin then turns her attention to Darnell again.*
Vin: You really let Leena heal you?

Darnell: *nods* I’ve been wielded on before. I owe my life to a spirit wielder.

Vin: When? *though simply his saying so seems to have her relaxing a bit more*

Darnell: *sits back, trying to remember* Must have been...well, it was over a half-year ago-Oh! No, I take that back. *sheepish grin* I owe my life to /two/ spirit wielders, though the healer working with the first one /might/ have been able to save me on his own. The first time . . . well, I'm a detective by trade. It was one of my first cases. The villain got the jump on me - beat me, poisoned me, stripped me of everything, and left me for dead in a field far from the village I was investigating in. Fortunately, the lady of that land found me and had me brought home. A wielder in the household worked carefully alongside the healer until I regained consciousness. *small grin* I happened to get a good look at my attendant, realized she was a half-blood, and a wielder, and she offered to heal me the rest of the way, which I accepted. Second time, I was on my way home from a case and just stopping to set camp when bandits found me... */frowns/* Like they did the evening Rai died. *yes, calls him by name, /remembers/ the boy's name* I was stabbed and again left for dead. They got me here. *points to his stomach at the angle the blade went in* I was bleeding out and couldn't breathe when a j'har woman found me. She was a wielder, and a runaway whose master had been a forester before he died, so she knew the forests and how to survive. She took a chance and saved me. As thank you, I gave her some of my supplies. I was close enough to home that I could get by until I got home and could buy more. *shrugs*

Keziah: So you’ve met a half blood before me. Heh. Wow.

Darnell: *grins* Two! My little sister, though she looks /older/ than me now. Jendayi's her name. She's an air wielder.

Vin: Little sister?
Nasha: Blood related? Also adopted by Terris?

Darnell: Not blood related, but yes, also adopted by Terris. My dad, an amin healer. *for those who don't know yet* Apparently Rashek knows him, from sometime back. I was ten and Jendayi was three when we found her one winter. */frowns/* She'd managed to escape, but her mother had just been killed. She'd already lost her father to illness and her half-brother - human - to slavers. Terris took her in and raised her along with me and my sisters.

Skif: That’s sad to hear. I’m glad you found her.

Darnell: *nods* Thanks, me too. And it is. No one should have to face that kind of horror. *looks at Keziah* I'm really glad /you've/ found a safe home too. *glances down as he thinks of it* Speaking of . . . and I mean, I /really/ hope nothing happens to this household, but if any of you should ever find yourselves homeless and on the run, make for the city if you can. Anywhere with a church. The churches are sanctuaries for all who need it, regardless of race, parentage, or ability. It's very little known because most humans would get all up in arms over it, but...it's true. If you /ever/ need anywhere else to go, make for a church.
